В 1967 году американский психолог Мартин Селигман проводил эксперименты над собаками, в ходе которых пропускал через них разряды тока и проверял, будут ли они пытаться избежать болезненного воздействия. Так он открыл «синдром выученной беспомощности». В 2016 году эту теорию пересмотрели. Ученые пришли к выводу, что существа рождаются беспомощными, а затем по ходу жизни могут научиться справляться с обстоятельствами. При этом в результате определенных событий (например, эксперименты с током) эту способность справляться может «откинуть» к младенческим настройкам. То есть называть такую беспомощность «выученной» некорректно.

Среда собаки или ее повседневная жизнь состоит из множества элементов: прогулки, друзья, амуниция и одежда, игры, питание и т. д. Наша задача – проанализировать, не слишком ли много/мало она гуляет, не шумно ли в ее доме, не гремит ли ее миска, не на проходе ли ее спальное место. И, если что-то не так, исправить ситуацию. Ноузворк – это спорт, в котором собака ищет по запаху различные вещества, например специи и масла, спрятанные в помещении или в специальных контейнерах (в чемоданах, коробках и т. д.). Как самостоятельный вид спорта ноузворк появился в США в 2006 году. Перед кинологами стояла задача придумать активность, которой могли бы заниматься собаки любых возрастов и пород на ограниченной территории. Тогда-то и появилась идея создания спорта, в котором собаки искали бы предметы по запаху, при этом двигаясь в собственном, комфортном им темпе.
